2002 MAPS / CENTRAL JERSEY SUMMER INVITATIONAL GALLERY: Some Champions & Finalists
Swan song for the Ocean Stingrays, who go off to college as our U18 Champions? Say it ain't so! This bunch of characters, with a name evocative of the Jersey Shore, and a long history in MAPS, has been a frequent "Welcome-To-New-Jersey" team at our showcases and tournaments, invariably pitted against the toughest visiting out-of-state teams (Columbus Blast, Greater Boston Eagles, Potomac Rockets, Super Nova) to give them a taste of what Jersey soccer is all about. You done good, guys! We'll miss ya!
Beware the keeper who knocks over both friend and foe in pursuit of his ball. Action from a U16 final, Merrick Red Storm beating the Long Island (LIJSL) Select squad 1-0.

U14 Boys has a great Final with Long Island (LIJSL) Select defeating Lehigh Valley 1-0. In another playoff game featuring the ubiquitous LIJSL, Long Island Select U15 wins the U16 Girls over Jersey Knights Furies 1-0. And LIJSL is in the Finals again in U15 Boys, won by Princeton Union 2-0.
Rhode Island Rays defeat Washington Twp. Rockets 1-0 in the U14 Girls Final. Hibernians FC had to resort to PKs in a tiebreaker to defeat PDA United for a U16 Boys crown.
Coach Tom McGovern takes the grandstand with his U12 Boys finalist Parkwood Dynamo, who were just edged in the Finals 2-1 by another LIJSL Select team.
