Eight teams qualify for the U23
Mens 2005 MSSL Cup playoff weekend.
Teams will be limited to the
players rostered to their club with USASA passes at the
point in time ten days prior to the start of MSSL Cup play.
Teams will submit a roster of up to 26 players which will be
exclusive to the team on which they are rostered at the
start of Cup play, of which 18 may participate on Saturday
and 18 may participate on Sunday. The list of 18 players
eligible for either day need not be identical.
GROUP PLAY will be conducted on
Saturday, with two four-team groups formed.
Each team will play every other
team in its group on Saturday.
In consideration of the
three-game schedule, game lengths will be 60 minutes on
Saturday; should teams in a group be reduced to only two
matches on Saturday, game length will be extended to 70
minutes per game.
Three points will be awarded for
a win and one point awarded for a tie.
Two teams will advance from each
group to Sunday's semifinals round.
Should teams complete their
three-game schedule tied on points, those teams will
immediately participate in a traditional FIFA-style penalty
kick shootout to determine which team advances to the
playoff rounds, and/or to determine where the team is
seeded. Choice of which team shoots first will belong to the
team with a superior goal differential in group play; if
still tied, order shall be determined by seeding in their
group (order in which teams are listed in their bracket).
In the event of a three-way tie,
two teams will shoot-out initially with the loser receiving
third place, while the winner faces off against the team
sitting out the first shoot-out to determine first and
second places. The team sitting out the first shootout will
be the team with the superior goal differential in group
play; if still tied, the team sitting out the first shootout
shall be determined by the teams' seeding in their group
(order in which teams are listed in their bracket).
PLAYOFF ROUNDS will be conducted
on Sunday, with Group B 2nd facing Group A 1st, and Group A
2nd facing Group B 1st. Winning teams will advance to the
championship finals, and losing teams will participate in a
consolation game.
All game lengths will be 70
minutes in Sunday's rounds. Semifinals and Final, if tied
upon conclusion of regulation time, will immediately proceed
to two 7.5 minute overtime periods played out in their
entirety. If the score is still tied, both teams will
proceed to a traditional FIFA-style penalty kick shootout.
