MID-ATLANTIC
SUMMER SHOWCASE LEAGUE
2007 SUMMER SEASON
for U17-U20 & U23 MENS &
WOMENS TEAMS

MSSL provides a definitive, affordable
venue for competition among players seeking to stay sharp and fit, and
display their skills, during Summer 2007. MSSL's structure is geared to
the transition player, --- players leaving their developmental youth
club, playing in college programs, preparing to enter the ranks of adult
and pro leagues. MSSL will provide a realistic schedule of games, at
reasonable cost, while maintaining an excellent competitive level.
Opening League Date: Sunday June
3
Final League Date: Sunday July
29
Number of Regular Season Games:
Typically 10-12
Games will be primarily scheduled for Sunday
afternoons on June 3, 10, 17 & 24; July 8, 15, 22 & 29. Games may be
shifted to Saturdays as circumstances and schedules warrant.
Teams are anticipated to play two
seventy-minute games most Sundays, with an occasional ninety minute
single game. Mens teams are expected to participate on 5-6 of the listed
dates, womens teams about 4-5 of the anticipated dates.
Fields: MSSL will strive to create two
to five separate geographically-dispersed game sites most weekends,
where 4 to 12 teams may participate.
Refs: MSSL expects to assign an
experienced three-man system for each game. League Referee Assignor is
Bob Mykulak (bobmykulak@yahoo.com)
League structure: Teams will be
flighted by competitive level. All teams within a Division will play a
round-robin schedule. Additional games will be scheduled against teams
in other flights, based partly on travel considerations, partly on
competitive matchups.
Standings: All game scores will be
reported. Standings will be based upon games within the Division.
Overall record, as well as Goals Scored and Goals Allowed will also be
reported on this website. Ties will be broken first by
head-to-head games, then by goal differential.
Awards: MSSL CUP 2007 will be
awarded to the winner of a playoff held on Sunday July 22.
+ Teams play their
regular season scheduled games
+ Rosters are frozen as of
July 6 for MSSL Cup purposes
+ Teams declare whether
they want to be considered for the U20 Mens or the
U23 Mens or
the U23 Womens MSSL Cup by July 12
+ Among the declarants,
six teams are picked in each division. Top four point
totals (3 for win, 1
for tie) after games of
July 15 qualify, plus two additional "Commissioner's
Picks" (allowing
some discretion to
include teams that showed well in fewer games, or
against
tougher/older
competition, etc.)
+ U20 MSSL Cup
participants can utilize up to three overage players
that were on their roster as
of July 6 (unlike the
the U20 Regional Cup which permits NO overage players)
+ No overage players
allowed for the U23 MSSL Cup
+ Teams are divided
into three-team groups and play two group games. Winners
of the two
groups meet in a final.

regional league with USASA, the national governing body for mens amateur
soccer. While there are administrative costs in being properly
registered and sanctioned, teams and players will also be able to

championships year-round, in addition to their participation in MSSL.
Scheduling Conflicts: All scheduling

includes cost of league registration with USASA; teams must also

National & Regional Cups: MSSL
teams can declare for USASA U23 Regional Cup competition through MSSL.
Teams must declare and submit payment of $150 by no later than May 30,
2007. A playoff will be conducted (within the context of the MSSL league
schedule) to determine MSSL representatives to the Regionals held on
July 14-15. Last year MSSL sent four of the 16 teams qualifying for the
U23 Mens Regional Finals, and enjoyed seeing an MSSL team get to the
Championship match; MSSL also sent four teams to the U23 Womens Regional
Finals, and again placed a Finalist. The U23 Regional Champion proceeds
to the National Final Four in early August. There is also a U20 Regional
competition on July 21-22; however, there is no national competition in
this age group.
