U17 through U20 teams find
this an excellent summer of preparation for College Showcases or
cracking that College Varsity starting line-up.
MSSL's structure is
geared to the transition player, --- players leaving their developmental
youth club, playing in college programs, preparing to enter the ranks of
adult and pro leagues.
MSSL will provide a realistic schedule of games,
at reasonable cost, while maintaining an excellent competitive level.
Opening League Date: Sunday
June 1
Final League Date: Sunday July
27
Number of Regular Season Games:
Typically 10-15
Games will be primarily scheduled for Sunday
afternoons on June 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29; July 6, 13, 20 & 27. Games may be shifted to
Saturdays as team preferences allow.
Teams are anticipated to play two
seventy-minute games most Sundays, with an occasional ninety minute
single game. Men's teams typically participate on 6-7 of the listed
dates, Women's teams about 5-6, although teams can have games scheduled
every weekend.
Fields: MSSL will strive to create two
to five separate geographically-dispersed game sites most weekends, where 4 to 12 teams may
participate.
Refs: MSSL expects to assign an
experienced three-man
system for each game. League Referee Assignor is Bob Mykulak (bobmykulak@yahoo.com)
League structure: Teams will primarily
play within their division (U20 & U23, although crossovers with other
divisions will occur to maintain fresh competition throughout the
summer).
Standings: All game scores will be
reported. Standings will be based upon games within the Division.
Overall record, as well as Goals Scored and Goals Allowed will also be
reported on this website. Top teams play off at the end of the
summer.
Awards: MSSL CUP 2008 will be
awarded to the winner of a playoff held on Sunday July 20.
+ Teams play their
regular season scheduled games
+ Rosters are frozen as of
July 4 for MSSL Cup purposes
+ Teams declare whether
they want to be considered for the U20 Mens or the
U23 Mens or
the U23 Womens MSSL Cup by July 10
+ Among the declarants,
six teams are picked in each division. Top four point
totals (3 for win, 1
for tie) after games of
July 13 qualify, plus two additional "Commissioner's
Picks" (allowing
some discretion to
include teams that showed well in fewer games, or
against
tougher/older
competition, etc.)
+ U20 MSSL Cup
participants can utilize up to three overage players
that were on their roster as
of July 4 (unlike the
the U20 Regional Cup which permits NO overage players)
+ No overage players
allowed for the U23 MSSL Cup
+ Teams are divided
into three-team groups and play two group games. Winners
of the two
groups meet in a final.

National Cup competition.
Carding: MSSL is a
fully-registered regional league with USASA, the national
governing body for mens amateur soccer. While there are administrative
costs in being properly registered and sanctioned, teams and players will
also be able to

championships year-round, in addition to their participation in MSSL.
Scheduling Conflicts: All scheduling agreements
must be emailed by BOTH teams to

includes cost of league registration with USASA; teams must also card players
($15 each) and register the team with USASA ($125); teams split

at site games, while home team is responsible for
field at single games.

National & Regional Cups: MSSL
teams can declare for USASA U23 Regional Cup competition through MSSL.
Teams must declare and submit payment of $150 by no later than May 30,
2008. A playoff will be conducted (within the context of the MSSL league
schedule) to determine MSSL representatives to the Regionals held on
July 12-13. Last year MSSL sent seven of the 16 teams qualifying for the
U23 Mens Regional Finals; MSSL also sent four teams to the U23 Womens Regional
Finals, and placed a Finalist. The U23 Regional Champion proceeds to the National
Final Four in early August. There is also a U20 Regional competition on
July 19-20; there is no national competition in this age group, but
starting in 2008 the Region One U20 Champion will play the Region Two
(Midwest) Champion.
