TREASURER’S REPORT 2005

On September 9, 2005, the first ever Ukrainian Day at Giants Stadium was held at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ. The event turned out to be a huge success with over 1,800 tickets sold. The main purpose of this day was to raise funds for Ukrainian youth organizations in the United States, Canada and Ukraine. The committee consisted of over 25 Ukrainian-Americans representing multiple organizations in the NY, NJ, CT, and PA areas under the chairmanship of coach Gene Chyzowych.

A total of $6,175 was donated to various youth organizations in the U.S. and Canada. These included churches, soccer clubs, youth scouting organizations such as Plast and SUM, Ukrainian schools and museums, scholarship funds, non-profit organizations such as the Children of Chernobyl Relief Fund, Ukrainian dance troupes, and Ukrainian resorts.

In addition, the organizing committee shipped nearly $10,000 worth of sports equipment to Ukraine. This equipment will be distributed by several members of the organizing committee in May, 2006 to sports clubs in small Ukrainian villages. The equipment includes soccer cleats, shin-guards, sweat suits, numbered soccer uniforms (shirts and shorts), soccer socks, soccer balls, cones, shirts for the coaches, numbered volleyball uniforms (shirts, shorts and socks), and volleyballs. The event turned out to be a great success on all accounts and the organizing committee hopes to make it an annual event and keep raising funds for these Ukrainian organizations in the United States, Canada, and Ukraine.
